An in-home estimate is a free estimate that the customer can request. One of our customer service representatives will visit you home and create an accurate inventory of the items that need to be moved. These in-home estimates lead to a more accurate moving quote.

Yes, move estimates are free and the customer is under no obligation to accept the quote. You can also use our online estimator for rates and to book your local or long distance moves.

As a service provider, we will move the customer on the dates agreed to between the customer and the moving company. It is wise to plan ahead for a major event in your life like this one. In some cases we can move you on the same day, if we have availability.

Based on the weight of the shipment and the distance travelled, a pre-determined transit time guide has been established in order for the customer to plan their itinerary. Most of the time this is pertaining to long distance moves, but the driver will let you know at the beginning of the move.

There is a minimum weight restriction concerning the packing, loading and transporting of household goods. It is dependent on your destination.

Yes, we can provide a complete packing and unpacking service, partial packing service or the customer may do their own packing. This gives the customer the benefit of choosing the type of service they require. Packing material and supplies can be purchased at the location or delivered for a fee.

In the transporting of household goods, the customer has options as to their valuation protection needs.

* Minimal protection‚ whereby the shipment is set at a Released Value of $0 .60 per lb. per item; which is no cost to the customer.

* Replacement Value‚ customer declares the value subject to United Van Lines and Campbell Group minimum Valuation formula.

Example: $10.00 per lb. x the weight of the shipment (12,000 lb. x $10.00 Replacement Valuation is 120,000 @ the cost of .80 per $100.00 valuation = $960.00 charge to customer).

Note: A shipment traveling to and from the United States are regulated under different methods, therefore ask your moving consultant for further details.

Vehicles may be shipped via three different methods:

  • In the van with the household effects via rail
  • Road transport via open or covered car carrier.

You should start planning for your move 6 weeks before your move date. You should begin looking for a moving company 8 weeks before you move. This way you can browse and contact different companies without being pressured.

Movers are by-law unable to transport certain items. Here is a list of items that cannot be moved by a moving company.

GASES & PROPELLANTS

  • Gasoline, propane, kerosene, naphtha, lighter fluid
  • Liquefied petroleum gases of all types
  • Aerosol cans not classified as personal toiletries
  • Barbecue tanks, oxygen, helium, acetylene
  • Butane lighters
  • Fire extinguishers

EXPLOSIVES

  • Ammunition
  • Fireworks
  • Flares
  • Blasting caps
  • Industrial explosives
  • Detonation devices

FLAMMABLE SOLIDS

  • Matches
  • Solid fuel & BBQ starter tablets
  • Sterno
  • Hay, straw, wood chips
  • Oily rags

YARD & GARDENING SUPPLIES

  • Pesticides containing a base of arsenic, strychnine or cyanide
  • Fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate
  • Pool chemicals
  • Chlorine
  • Wood preservatives

CORROSIVES

  • Battery alkaline or acid (except car battery installed in a car being shipped)

HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS

  • Bleach & peroxide
  • Disinfectants
  • Cleaning fluids such as ammonia, verso, turpentine
  • Pesticides, herbicides & fumigants
  • Oven cleaner, lye or acids
  • Oil-based paints & thinners
  • Chemistry sets
  • Any flammable items

Your plants are delicate creatures. The stress of moving and the temperature outside may affect them. Not all moving companies will take responsibility for maintaining the welfare of plants. We suggest that you bring your plants in your own personal vehicle to avoid any damage.

There are certain items that you should transport yourself during your move. Some of these include:

  • Plants
  • Jewelry
  • Antiques
  • Computers/Electronics
  • Family Heirlooms
  • Fragile items

Your pets may become stressed on moving day. The doors of the house will also be opened and closed frequently throughout the day. We suggest that you find somewhere for them to stay on moving day.

If your moving date changes, you should inform your moving consultant as soon as you know.
